DONALD CONNORS Obituary

Donald F. Connors, a Scarsdale resident for over 50 years, and a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale, died at his home on Saturday, November 27, 1999. Beloved husband of the late Helen Newman Connors, he is survived by five sons, Dr. Donald F. Jr. of Summit, NJ, Thomas of West Chester, PA, Michael of Scarsdale, NY, Edward of White Plains, NY and Christopher of Woodland Hills, CA, and two daughters, Harriette Conners-DeLuca of Parsippany, NJ and Helen Bates of Somers, NY. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 18, 1907 to the late Michael and Harriet Connors. Donald F. Connors graduated from Fordham College, attended Harvard Law School, and later took his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. Dr. Connors was Professor of English and chairman of his department at the In-town Campus of Fordham University in New York City and later at Lincoln Center. During our country's Bicentennial Celebration, he was the only individual chosen by the Bicentennial Committee to present a program on Literature of the Revolution. He was co-editor of five textbooks and author of several documentary radio scripts. Among his many works is Thomas Morton, the definitive work on the seventeenth-century New England writer. He was a Member of The New York Academy of Public Education and a vice chairman of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Poetry Society of America. Calling hours are Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Bennett Funeral Home. The funeral is Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale at 10 am. EDWIN L.
