Atwell, Doris Catherine

Doris Catherine Atwell, a longtime resident of Somers, died on November 21, 2014. She was 87. Mrs. Atwell worked as an Administrative Assistant for Maryknoll in Ossining, before retiring in 1992. Mrs. Atwell was born in 1927, in Newburgh, NY, to James and Dorothy Fitzpatrick. She graduated from White Plains High School in 1945. In 1950, she married Robert Joseph Atwell at Sacred Heart Church in Mount Vernon. Mrs. Atwell was a parishioner of St. Patrick's R.C. Church in Yorktown Heights. A woman of deep faith, Mrs. Atwell was warm, kind, fun, loving and generous of heart. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend. Interested in life, she made everyone she touched feel special. Mrs. Atwell is survived by her son, Robert J. Atwell, Jr. and his spouse, Jane; her daughter Susan A. Napoleon and her spouse Gil; her daughter Ann L. Atwell; her daughter Dorothy A. Cassetta and her spouse Dominick and her daughter Virginia M. Atwell-Greenwood and her spouse James. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Joe, Christine, Nicholas, James, Amanda, Richard, Gus, John Michael, Drew, Kathryn, Victoria, Daniel, Kelly and Luke, as well as one great-grandchild, Robbie. In addition, she is survived by her sister Barbara Cervi and nieces Dawn and Wendy. She was predeceased by her husband, parents and brother, Jim. The Mass of Christian Burial is Saturday, November 29, at 11:30am at New St. Patrick's Church in Yorktown Heights. Interment will follow at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.
