Eileen Savage Obituary

Savage , Eileen L.

Eileen L. Savage died on June 9, 2014. She was born on December 24, 1927 in Yonkers, NY and moved with her family to Bronxville, NY in 1962. She was the daughter of Mary Tunston Savage and Claude Savage. Her brother Charles George Savage died in infancy and her sister Mary died in 2008. Eileen is survived by many cousins living in the United States, Ireland and England. Eileen graduated from Gorton High School and received a BS degree and MA degree from New York University in the field of education and several additional credits in administration. She was a grade level coordinator for the Yonkers Public School System and was appointed Principal at School #34, formerly, Emerson School, in 1972 and then appointed Principle of School #26 and then School #30 until her retirement in 1988. In 1966 she received the annual Police Teacher Safety Award for her outstanding efforts in safety education at the elementary level. In 1987 she was the first recipient of the Rotary Club "Leadership in Education Award" in the Yonkers Elementary Schools. Eileen spent many years as a volunteer at the Convent of Mary the Queen. She was also a very active member of the Bronxville Senior Citizens since 1988. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Society. Calling hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home, Bronxville, between the hours of 7 to 9 pm Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial, Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe, on Friday, June13 at 10:30 am.
