ERNEST JONES Obituary
Ernest K. Jones, departed this life on August 12, 2002 following an extended battle with cancer. Ernest was born in La Cour, LA, on May 22, 1922 to Estelle Washington Jones and Richard Ruthes Jones. He grew up in Baton Rouge, LA attending elementary, middle, and high school there. He graduated from McKinley High, and attended Southern University graduating at age 20, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. At age 20, he joined the US Army and served as Technical Sergeant. He was involved in campaigns in Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. He was honorably discharged in 1945 receiving the Bronze Star, European African, Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medals and recently the US Army approved Millennium Medal from Westchester County for his service in WWII. Ernest received his Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School and passed the New York State Bar exam in 1949. He received his Master's Degree in Public Administration from Baruch College in 1951. He wrote a thesis on the Seabury Investigation which was published and given a card catalog number in the Library of Congress. He worked as a Court Officer in the NYS Supreme Court for NY County until 1979 when he became Principal Law Librarian in the New York State Supreme Court, Bronx County. He retired in 1991 and continued to practice law. His community involvement included Masonic Order, Eureka Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc, Yonkers Citizen's Union, Runyon Heights Community Improvement Association, member and devoted coach in the Bryn Mawr Boys Club. He was an active member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church from 1961 where he served as Treasurer and Elder for many years. Ernest is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ernestine Keno Jones; children Diane P. Moizio, Pamela Y. Jones, and Clyde R. Jones; grandchildren Samuel, David, and Timothy Hodges; sons-in-law Louis Moizio and James Hodges, Jr; his sister Irene D. Carter of San Francisco, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws in New York, California, Louisiana, Texas, Maryland and Virginia. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bryn Mawr Park Presbyterian Church, 20 Buckingham Road, Yonkers, NY, 10701 or to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Institute, 1275 York Avenue, NY, NY, 10021.
