Eugene Augustine Obituary

Augustine, Eugene

Eugene (Gene) Augustine, a longtime resident of Larchmont, passed away on July 26, 2011. Born December 3, 1937, in New Rochelle to Marcel and Catherine (nee: Blaney) Augustine, Gene was raised by Henry and Esther Ingham and their son George, upon his parents' deaths when he was a child. Gene attended St. Gabriel/Blessed Sacrament schools and married Theresa Fillat of New Rochelle in 1961. They soon started a family and later moved to Larchmont.

Gene retired from the New Rochelle Fire Department after 20 years of service. He was an active member of the community and served as commissioner of the Larchmont Little League and Babe Ruth League. He also coached at Blessed Sacrament High School and in the Mamaroneck Midget Football league.

He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa, and their seven children: Michael, Catherine, Gene Jr., Steven, Matthew, Cindy and Tracy. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and his beloved dog, Tori.

Visiting hours are July 28, 2011, from 4pm-9pm at the John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont. The funeral mass will be held at 11am on July 29, 2011 at St. Augustine's Church in Larchmont. many think that when we die, we see no ocean, bird nor sky.
they falsely think we lie in ground, in a darkened place without a sound. this great untruth us ancient fable; that when we die, we become unable. disarm this myth, you images of god, whole on this sphere you live and plod. earth is cold; souls are warm; and in spirit life our souls dont mourn. our heavenly lives are purely bliss. what wr leave on earth, wr do not miss.

Auggie--wanted you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Did not know your Dad but no doubt he was extremely proud of his namesake. Given the old addage "the apple doesnt fall far from the tree"--since you are a great guy and great American I have no doubt your Dad was that and then some.

An Irish Funeral Prayer

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Everything remains as it was.
The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.
