Eugene Kerr Obituary

Eugene Cyril Kerr

Stony Point - Eugene Cyril Kerr, 80, passed away April 4, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was Born in Emyvale, County Monaghan, Ireland to James and Josephine Kerr. For 58 years he was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Ellen Patricia Kerr (McCaffrey) from Roslea, County Fermanagh, Ireland. They came to New York in 1962 to start a new life for their future family. He was an incredible role model to his three children, Helen (William Finn) of Dennis, MA, Cyril (Diane) and Kenneth (Gloria) both of Tomkins Cove, NY. Pop-Pop was loved and will be greatly missed by his grandchildren; Sheena, Jessica,Christopher, Ryan, Colin, Susanna, and Erin. After arriving in NYC, he worked days and attended school at night to obtain his Operating Engineering license. For 40 years he worked for the NYC Board of Education as a Custodial Engineer. There wasn't anything that he couldn't do. He was so talented in all aspects of home improve-ment, renovation, and plumbing. He was very proud of his Irish Catholic Heritage serving as an usher and a devoted parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church, Stony Point. He was also a member of the Haverstraw Elks and was a 3rd Degree Knight and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He always believed in helping and providing for the less fortunate by donating his time to those in need. He always enjoyed helping with fundraising efforts of the Rockland County Police Emerald Society and the RCPBA. He is predeceased by his sister, Susanna, and leaves behind his brother, Seamus, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews in Ireland and the states. He always enjoyed re-turning to Ireland to visit family and friends. He also enjoyed spending summers in Cape Cod and his winters in Puerto Rico where he made so many great friends. Everyone that knew him, loved his incredible kindness, infectious smile and Irish Humor. The family thanks and are grateful to the staff of the Hospice of Rockland for their compassion and spiritual guidance. In lieu of flowers and in his memory a donation can be made to the Immaculate Conception Church or Hospice (Joe Raso Hospice Residence). Due to the current COVID-19 there can be no Mass and visitation is limited to immediate family. A Memorial Mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date.

From Lorcan and Anne Shaw
To Dear Patricia, Helen, Cyril, Kenny, Dianne, Gloria and William and all the grandchildren and all the family circle.
Anne and I have lovely memories of Cyril, staying with Cyril and Patricia in their home in NY on two different occasions and meeting all the family.
When we met on their most recent visit to Ireland, we shared a meal in the Ballymascanlon House Hotel with Cyril, Patricia and Helen and we were joined by one of our sons Gerard, who was delighted to meet his cousins. Cyril always had such good humour and was fun loving. All our cousins were very friendly with each other down through the years and we feel a great loss to lose one of our own.
We have memories going back to the 1940s in Monaghan and stayed in touch ever since.
Cyril was a very caring person and was very good to Jackie in America. Cyril took Lorcan to the Irish Club to see the All Ireland Final 2014 on the last visit and the other members knew him well and came over to see who was this guy just over from Ireland.
Pictures below of Cyril, Patricia, Anne and Lorcan at Ballymac. Also Cyril, Patricia, Helen and Anne at Ballymac and a painting of Aunt Alice and Genie's house in Mullan; Cyril's grandparents' house in Mullan, where his father was born.
We wish you all sincere good wishes at this difficult time.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis,

Mr. Gene will be missed. Such a gentle, sweet soul. Gene and Pat would come to Puerto Rico - Palmas del Mar yearly to spend a few weeks during the winter. We missed them early 2019 he had taken ill just the year before that.
Always had the same unit with ocean views, He enjoyed walking, the views to the beach from the balcony, his children or grandchildren coming to stay with them, the folks and friends they had made during the years here in Palmas. We simply loved him, his warmth and kindness.
He would never call if anything came up in the unit, Instead let us know "I found this and fixed it" wish I had more tools here". He will be missed...

What a great man and a true blessing to us all. Whenever I think of him I will always have a smile on my face and warmth in my heart knowing the pleasure he brought to us all and that I knew one of Gods greatest gifts.
