Forrest Wilcox Obituary

Wilcox, Forrest S.

Wilcox, Forrest S.

Forrest S. Wilcox, 88, of Montrose, NY departed this life peacefully with family by his side on March 22, 2011. Born in 1922 to Ralph and Beatrice Wilcox in Chambersburg, PA, he attended the University of Maryland, interrupting his studies to serve in the Pacific as a B-24 Liberator pilot in the 307th Bomber Squadron during World War Two. In 1947, he graduated college with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and met his future wife, Mattie Moorhead.

Forrest worked as a research engineer at the Dupont de Nemours facility in Newburgh, NY then went on to lead a research team at the Mearl Corp. in Ossining, NY developing a manufacturing process for pearlescent plastic film. He is listed as the inventor on four U.S. patents. In his spare time, he enjoyed amateur radio, wine-making, tennis, tinkering, and a good garage sale. He laughed whenever he fixed something and an extra wire was left over at the end of the project.

He leaves behind his companion of many years, Joan Lederman; his sister, Lasca Terhorst; his daughters, Beverly Wilcox, Lorraine Wilcox, and Caroline Wilcox Reul; his grandchildren Maya Rosas, Benjamin Reul, and Samuel Reul; and his nephews Michael Terhorst and his wife Linda, and John Terhorst. There will be a private burial in New Albany, PA. To express your condolences online please visit: ww.efcarter.com.

As close neighbors of our dear friend, Forrest, we share fond and warm memories of a delightful, upbeat, always positive gentle man. Our united meeting place was tending to our gardens and enjoying the experiences and wonders of nature all together. Anna and I will miss our friend Forrest very much.

Forrest has been an important and loving part of our family for many, many years. The girls and I will always keep him in our hearts and our fondest memories. He was a good man of many talents and great warmth. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
