Turner, Jr., Francis L.

Francis (Frank) Lee Turner, Jr., son of Francis L. Turner, Sr. and the late Mary Louis Turner, made his transition on April 19, 2017. Born on May 15, 1942, Frank graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Saviour.

In 1960, Frank attended Howard University School of Architecture where he was inducted into the national honor society and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. - Alpha Chapter in 1962. In 1972, he received a B.A. in Architecture from Columbia University School of Architecture.

In 1975, Frank became a Licensed and Registered Architect in the State of New York. Soon after, he established Lewis, Turner Partnership, Architects and Planners in New York City with friends, Roger C. Lewis, R.A. and James Strawder, R.A. One of their signature projects included the Jacob Javits Exposition and Convention Center in NYC with internationally recognized firm, I.M. Pei and Partners.

In 1981, Frank incorporated Francis L. Turner Associates, Architects and Planners as the sole practitioner. His current firm, Francis L. Turner, Architects and Planners worked throughout the state of New York, including in Westchester County. He was a founding member of the New York Coalition of Black Architects (NYCOBA) in 1970 and he received numerous national and local awards throughout his career.

Frank was an active member of the Kappa Omicron chapter of Omega Psi Phi in Harlem, New York. And in 1988, he became a proud member of the Xenia Lodge #50, Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of New York, where he was raised as a Master Mason. Frankie will be remembered for his love of music, traveling, and his infectious smile.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eleanor (Fyall) Turner of New Rochelle, NY, where they resided. He leaves behind his dear daughters, Nicol Lee, Tene Turner, and Frances Turner; two adoring grandchildren, Keith and Chloe Lee; and his yorkie, Scooby Doo. He is also survived by his father Francis L. Turner, Sr.; sisters Jacqueline Turner and Diane Harrington; and brothers Douglas and Bernard Turner.

A celebration of his life will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church in New Rochelle, NY. Visiting hours will begin at 4:30pm on Monday, May 1, followed by the wake from 7pm-9pm. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 2, with a final viewing at 9am and the service to begin at 10am. Internment will follow at Beechwoods Cemetery in New Rochelle, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family has established the "Francis L. Turner Memorial Scholarship" at Howard University School of Architecture.
