GEORGE CONOD Obituary

George A. Conod, Sr. of New City died on December 15, 2007 at the New York State Veterans Home at Montrose. He was 89 years old. George was born in West Hoboken, New Jersey on January 27, 1918 to Felix (George) and Adeline Meyer Conod. He grew up in Union City and graduated from St. Michael's High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II in the European theater and was with the D-Day invasion forces at Normandy (Omaha Beach). George retired as a Colonel from the US Army Reserves. He was married to Regina (Jeanne) Cody on April 27, 1946 and lived in Bayside, New York until his retirement from B. Altman's and Company in 1983. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Bayside and served that community as an usher, Eucharist minister, and member of the Parish Council. He was one of the founding members of the Bayside Chapter of the Knights of Columbus, Pope Pius XII Council #4255, and was a Past Grand Knight of that Council. After moving to New City in 1983, he was a member of St. Augustine Parish where he served as Eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 851 in New City. He is predeceased by his wife Jeanne (June 11, 2007) and is survived by his children Elaine Conover (James), Marianne Conod, George A. Conod, Jr. (Marilyn), his 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, Main Street, New City on Wednesday, December 19, 2007. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine Church in New City on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet. Donations may be made in George's memory to the St. Francis Breadline, St. Francis of Assisi Church, 135 West 31st Street, New York, New York 10001. MICHAEL J.
