George Q. Slocum died peacefully at his home in Ossining on February 9th, 2013 after a short illness. He was born on April 4, 1918 in Dobbs Ferry, NY, son of Chester Andrews Slocum and Ruth Johnson Slocum. He was predeceased by his brother William Collin Slocum in 1963, his sister Gladys Slocum Geer in 2010, and his wife Sally Augusta Graham Slocum in 2008.

George graduated in 1934 from Ardsley, NY High School, from Amherst College in 1938, and from Yale Law School in 1941, and commenced practice on admission to the bar with the firm of Bleakley, Platt & Walker. After Pearl Harbor, he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and graduated from Annapolis Naval Academy as Naval Engineer with the rank of Ensign USNR.

On leave from his ship as Engineering Officer, he met and married Sally Graham in 1944 in a romance that ended 64 years later. Upon his release from active duty in 1945, he resumed the practice of law with Bleakley, Platt & Walker and he and Sally moved to White Plains, NY. In 1954, he and Sally moved into a newly constructed home in Ossining, NY where they resided for over 50 years. After his retirement, George founded and for over 20 years headed the AARP Tax Aide program in Westchester County to assist seniors with income tax returns.
