GEORGE WORTH Obituary

George V. Worth, on January 17, 2006, joined the glorious ranks of his departed Olympic colleagues, welcomed also by old army buddies, professional friends and heroes of the Orangeburg Fire Department and South Orangetown Ambulance Corps. George loved and served our country and our community. He was one of the million service men and women who passed through Camp Shanks to the European Theatre of war and the Battle of the Bulge where he earned several Bronze Stars. He was generous with his infinite talents and abilities. (he also spoke six languages) and rose to leadership in ever facet of his life: U.S.A. National Sabre Fencing Championship in 1954; nine Olympic games- five as participant, four as games official, past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Captain of the South Orangetown Ambulance Corps and Chief Commissioner of the Orangeburg Fire Department. The beauty of our small town is that we all know and care for each other which magnifies the grace with which we meet life's challenges together. When age ruled out his service in S.O.A.C. George delivered Meals on Wheels for some years. George's life is celebrated by his wife of 52 years, Karen, his children; James and Karen, grandchildren; Lucy and Edward DeLuise and great-grandchildren; Edward, Laura and Bruno. At the age of 90, admired by all George will be powerfully missed by all whose lives were touched by his rescue missions, friendship and working together for a great cause. George sparkles forever as a jewel in the crown of America. Viewing will be on Thursday, January 19, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Moritz Funeral Home on Route 303 in Tappan, NY. A Religious Service will be held at Moritz on Friday at 10 am followed by the procession to Loescher's Veterans Cemetery.
