GERALD JACOBS Obituary
Dr. Gerald M. Jacobs of Jensen Beach, Florida and Brewster, New York passed to his heavenly reward on May 29, 2008. He was born on July 13, 1925 to Milton and Julia (Fried) Jacobs and grew up in the Bronx, NY before moving to 'the country', settling and opening his Podiatry office in Brewster. He was the first foot specialist in Putnam County and practiced Podiatry from 1948 to 1984. Gerald received his Doctorate degree in Podiatric Medicine from Long Island University, became a Diplomat of Ambulatory Surgery, a Fellow in the American Association of Hospital Podiatrists and a life member in the American Podiatric Medical Association. 'Jerry' was the beloved husband to Grace C. Jacobs, his cherished and loving life companion and a devoted father to his only daughter Jill Jacobs-Quinn of Brewster, NY. He was the adoring grandfather to Grace Julia Jacobs Quinn, Cary Quinn and Deanna Quinn. His son-in-law, Michael Quinn was deeply admired. He was pre-deceased by a younger brother, Clifford Jacobs in 1999. Gerald is survived by a sister-in-law, Jean Coleman and several loving nieces and nephews. Gerald was an avid 'boats-man' and appropriately named his boats as well as his cars "Foot Sea". Gerald and Grace adventured to many distant islands as PADI Certified scuba divers. Gerald was a member of the Danbury Yacht Club; the Lake Candlewood, St. Lucie River and the United States Power Squadrons; and attained the prestigious rank of Navigator in the "N Club". He was an Army veteran of World War II and is a member of the American Legion Argone Post #71 in Brewster, NY and Post #126 in Jensen Beach, Fl. Gerald was a Rotarian for 25 years and served as President of the Brewster Rotary Club. He was a founding member of the Brewster PTA, the Brewster Little Theater Group, Temple Beth Elohim and the Putnam Hospital Center. Gerald held a pilot's license, was a loyal Yankee fan and a colorful story-teller. Upon retirement he became a Florida resident, but each summer, like clockwork, he would rejoin his beloved family and friends in Brewster, NY. The family will receive friends at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will be held privately at Sharon Gardens in Valhalla, NY. Memorial contributions can be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1000 SE Ruhnke Street, Stuart, Florida, 34994.
