GERARD CURRAN Obituary

Gerard J. Curran, Sr., long time Katonah resident died Friday, May 25 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City after a short illness. He was born in New York City on October 27, 1931 to Thomas and Helen Matthews Curran. He is survived by his wife, Donna, a teacher at Primrose School in Somers and five children, Maria R. Wagner of South Salem, Gerard J. Curran, Jr. of Katonah, Matthew J. Curran of Ridgefield, Connecticut, Andrew B. Curran of London, England and Donna (Dolly) Curran of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Curran, known as Jerry is also survived by three grandchildren, Cole and Ian Wagner and Amelia Matthews Curran and the brother of Helen Curran and Jack Curran of Rye, New York. Jerry Curran was a nationally ranked swimmer in the 1950's. He was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School and of Fordham College where he captained the swimming team. He received a Masters of Education degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. Jerry served in the Army at Fort Story, Virginia and Treasure Island, San Francisco where he swam for the army team. He taught for thirty years in the Harrison Central School District where he coached the high school varsity swim team. After his retirement, he taught at Lincoln Hall in Somers. Mr. Curran was active in the Cursillo Movement and REC Program, Residents Encounter Christ. He was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Assumption parish in Katonah where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at 11:00 am. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah.
