Gerard Devine Obituary
Bronxville - Gerard "Jerry" K. Devine, of Bronxville, passed away on May 22, 2019. Beloved husband of Mary Devine. Loving father of Kerry (Todd Rosenthal) and Colin (Monika Zarzeczna), devoted grandfather of Eliza and Dean and dear brother of Hugh Devine. Born and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Jerry was a graduate of Xaverian High School and later Manhattan College. After proudly serving in the US Army from 1969-1971, Jerry had a long career with Metropolitan Life as an investment analyst and later with D.C. Ranieri Insurance Agency. What he cherished most in life was spending time with family and friends, cooking and sharing a good meal, music, dancing, wine and laughter. Calling hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home, Bronxville, between the hours of 2 to 6 pm Monday. Mass of Christian Burial, St. Joseph's Church, Bronxville, on Tuesday May 28 at 10:45 am.

Mr. Devine was an amazingly compassionate and generous human being. I spent many hours as a guest in his home as a childhood friend to his son...he always made me feel welcome and loved to share his knowledge of cooking and the performing arts. His kindness and humor will never be forgotten, I was lucky to have known him. RIP Mr. Devine...my prayers are with your family, it is never easy to say goodbye.

DIANA (CERRATO) GIACINO SENDS LOVE AND PRAYERS FOR FAMILY. TEENAGE FRIENDS, WE DANCED EVERY TIME THE "GROUP" GOT TOGETHER DOWN MY BASEMENT. I DANCED AT HIS WEDDING, HE DANCED AT MINE. DANCING WAS WHAT MADE HIM MOST HAPPY UNTIL HE FELL IN LOVE WITH "GALLEY". I ONLY HAVE THE FONDEST OF MEMORIES AND I WILL TREASURE THEM ALWAYS.

Skip Meise entered my life in mid 1960's and shortly thereafter married my sister Alison Kerr. His best friend and college roommate, Jerry, came along with him, and the depth of their lifetime friendship grew deeper when Jerry married Skip's sister Gally. As the years went by, Skip's best friend became a friend of all the Kerrs; his wit, smile and warmth were always appreciated by my family.
I have many happy memories of Jerry, especially when Skip and Jerry were both young and prone to horseplay. Perhaps most memorable was the time Skip threw salt is Jerry's wounds after he fell on the gravel driveway during a raucous game of bad mitten. As I recall, Jerry still managed to smile as the salt met the scrapes. I guess it is safe to say, to forgive is Devine!
The last time I saw Jerry was at Skip and Alison's 50th wedding anniversary celebration at the Centerport Yacht Club. Jerry replicated the best man toast he had delivered back when he and Skip were both young men at the beginning of their lives, before they would become fathers, uncles, and grandfathers to those that mourn Jerry today. Jerry's glow was there all those years, and remains with all that remember him so fondly.
John 14:2 teaches us In my Father's house are many rooms; I am sure there is one for Jerry.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
