IRENE GILL

Irene Gill of Patterson (Putnam Lake), died Friday, December 31 at her home. She was 95. Born May 16, 1904 in Belhaven, NC to the late Dameron B. and Sally Ann (Bishop) White. After graduating high school she attended State Teachers College at Harrisonburg, VA. She married John Gill, Sr, in Washington, DC, on January 10, 1938, then settled in Queens, NY before moving to Putnam Lake in 1948. Her husband John predeceased her in 1961. Mrs. Gill was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brewster, the Putnam County Retired Teachers Association and United Methodist Women. Mrs. Gill taught at Green Chimneys School for 14 and 1/2 years before retiring in 1969. She is survived by her son, John Jr, of Putnam Lake. A service will be held Tuesday, 10 am at the First United Methodist Church in Brewster. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Interment will follow in Saint Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery, Brewster. Contributions in her memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 81 Main Street, Brewster, NY, 10509.
