Joanna Barry Obituary
Joanna Barry
North Rockland - Joanna (Jennie) Barry (nee Felice), lifelong resident of North Rockland, passed away peacefully on Monday April 8, 2019 at The Atrium Senior Living of Park Ridge, NJ. She was born on May 12, 1927 in Haverstraw, NY to Ralph and Justina Felice. Jennie married Richard (Buddy) Barry on April 24th, 1949; he predeceased her on August 25, 1991. Jennie graduated from St. Peter's School in Haverstraw and attended Haverstraw-Stony Point High School.
Jennie particularly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially when musical instruments and singing were involved. She also enjoyed visiting with members of her extended Italian family around the holidays and in all cases food was an important ingredient. Jennie's cakes, cookies and pies will be well remembered.
Above all, Jennie was accepting and supportive of other people and keenly aware of their needs and always willing to help. An example of her generosity is that over a period of 20 years she worked through the charitable organization Retired Senior Volunteers Program of Rockland (R.S.V.P.) crocheting over 225 lap blankets which were provided to the residents of Summit Park Hospital and
local nursing homes. For well over 20 years Jennie was also an active member of Stony Point Senior Center where she made many wonderful friends. Jennie's strong faith was always a comfort to her.
In addition to her husband, Jennie is predeceased by her five brothers Fred, Jerome, Joseph, Patrick, Frank and her three sisters, Philomena, Rose and Anna.
She is survived by her loving children Barbara of Stony Point, NY; Jo-Anne (Mario) Di-Valentino of Spring Hill, FL; Mary (Rich) Freedman of Lambertville, NJ and Richard (Marilyn Churley) Barry of Toronto, Canada and her adored grandchildren Colleen, Beth, Paul and Brittany and great-grandchildren, Evan, Caden, Colin and Rachel.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday April 11, 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at Finn Funeral Home, 43 East Main Street, Stony Point, NY. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Joanna on Friday April 12 at 10 AM at The Church of The Immaculate Conception, 26 John Street, Stony Point, NY with interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Haverstraw. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to R.S.V.P. 145 College Road, Room 1110, Suffern, NY 10901.
