JOHN AVATI Obituary

John J. Avati, of Verplanck, NY, passed away on July 12, 2006. He was 72. He worked as a Head Yard Man for Dains Lumber Co. in Peekskill. He was with the company for over 38 years. He was also a part time worker at Paradise Restaurant. He was a Partner at Alfredo's Delicatessen in Peekskill, then later worked part time at Da Ro's in Buchanan. He was born September 13, 1933 in Cittanova, Calabria, Italy to Rocco and Anna Tropiano Avati. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era. Locally, he was a member of Local 456 Teamsters Union, Elmsford, NY, Mt. Carmel Society, American Legion Verplanck Post, and an Associate Member of Verplanck Fire Dept. He is survived by two sisters, Marie and brother-in-law Raymond Ray of Peekskill, NY and Angela and brother-in-law Maurice Chalk of Verplanck, NY. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass Tuesday, 10 am, at St. Christopher's Church. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
