John Thomas Obituary
Stony Point - John Peter Thomas entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 06, 2018 at the Joe Raso Hospice Center in New City after a two year battle fighting cancer. He was born on December 1, 1959 to Jo-Ann Swartout Thomas and the late John Wilson Thomas. He was a lifelong resident of Rockland County, being raised on Anderson Drive in Stony Point.
Peter, as he was called by his family and friends attended schools in Rockland County where at BOCES he studied mechanics.
At age 29, while working, he was seriously injured causing him not to be able to return to work. He was declared disabled and unable to work by New York State and would collect benefits until his passing. After that misfortune, he studied all about computers and even built a few of his own.
Peter was a musician, playing the guitar and he was a member of the band Foxy, playing in many concerts in the New York area and made many friends with well-known Rock and Roll and heavy metal stars.
Not only does Peter leave behind his mother, Jo-Ann, he is also survived by his ex-wife Kristine Katt Thomas and their two children, Peter and Deanna, his goddaughter Elizabeth Katt and many cousins. He will be deeply missed by his cat miracle, but will be cared for by his mom.
Peter was also the grandson of Marie Hamilton Swartout and Elmer Swartout. He shared a special relationship with his grandmother after his parents separated and his grandfather passed before he was born. Peter was predeceased by his godfather and Uncle William Swartout and his wife Betty as well as his aunt Daisy Thomas Wilson.
I want to thank my cousin Deacon Eugene Hamilton for visiting us every Saturday and praying with us and giving us Holy Communion and to his lifelong friend Michael Freeman and his wife Nelia for all the time they gave to both of us, going out of their way to do everything possible. I also want to thank Thomas Freeman, Thomas Burnsby, Chris Figluizzi and Richard and Joan Nugent for all their help and friendship, it will always be remembered.
The wake for Peter will be at Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point on Thursday, August 9th from 2-4pm & 7-9pm and Friday, 2-4pm & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Peter and St. Mary Church in Haverstraw on Saturday, August 11th at 10am. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in the Swartout/Thomas family plot.

Jo-Ann, Peter and Deannna, I am so sorry for the pain and loss you are suffering at this time but rest assured that he is at peace now with no more suffering or pain. He will be missed by you all but you may be reunited with him. Hold to that promise.
