JOSEPH COLOSIMO Obituary
Joseph L. Colosimo of Yonkers died on November 22, 1999. He was 71 years old. Mr. Colosimo was born to Angelo and Elizabeth Panio Colosimo on November 24, 1927 in the Bronx. He married the former Amalia D. Gerardi on July 7, 1956 at St. Philip Neri Church in the Bronx. Joseph graduated from New York University, College of Engineering and was a licensed Consulting Engineer in private practice for the past 25 years in Yonkers. He was a member of "The National Society of Professional Engineers," and the "Society of Engineers in Private Practice." For many years, he has supported and been active in many civic and community affairs. He has been constantly involved in promoting the good and welfare, and education of Italian-Americans in Yonkers and throughout the state. Mr. Colosimo was a "Delegate at Large" to C.I.A.O., and was trustee of "Sons of Italy in America," Anthony Maggiacomo Lodge 2320 and on the Advisory Board of The Enrico Fermi Education Foundation. Joseph was also a former president of the Yonkers Junior Chamber of Comerce, and a member of The Yonkers Charter Revision Commission. Mr. Colosimo was appointed and served three years as a select member of The New York State Education Department Council on Ethnic Studies. He was a Past Chairman of the Annual Yonkers Columbus Day Celebration Committee, and the Annual Enrico Fermi Foundation Scholarship Breakfast and an active member of S.I.A.M.O. Mr. Colosimo was a former member and Chairman of The Yonkers Municipal Housing Authority and also served on the Board of Directors of the Yonkers Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the "Yonkers 2000" Advisory Board. He served as Chairman of The Westchester County Refuse Disposal Board. He was former Chairman of the Westchester County Medical Center. Recently, Joseph was represented as Engineer on the Regional Code Board of Review for N.Y.S. Department of State. Joseph and his family have resided in Yonkers for the past 42 years. Mr. Colosimo is survived by his Beloved wife Amalia. Loving father of Angelo J., Louis A., Stephen G. Colosimo, Gina M. Jones, Teresa J. Miller. Adored son of Elizabeth and the late Angelo Colosimo. Dear brother of Anthony Colosimo. Grandfather of eight. Contributions preferred to American Health Foundation, Valhalla, NY 10595. Visitation Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm.
