Joseph Florkowski

New Rochelle - Joseph M. Florkowski, a 49-year resident of New Rochelle, NY passed away on January 25th, 2021 at the age of 81.

Joseph was born on October 14th, 1939 in Yonkers, NY to Michael J Florkowski and Francis (Bakowski) Florkowski. He graduated from Roosevelt HS in 1957, when he then served in the armed forces for 2 years. He attended Westchester Community College and then joined the New Rochelle Police Department in 1963. In 1963, he was a Patrolman for 7 years until 1970 when he was promoted to Sergeant. During his time in uniform, he oversaw the motorcycle unit for the New Rochelle PD. In 1983, after 20 years in uniform while remaining in the police department, he became the Traffic Engineer for the City of New Rochelle for which he served 20 years full time and 3 additional years part time. He fully retired in 2006. He took such pride in his job and although retired, always thought of himself as a police officer. He truly loved his job.

On January 25, 1964, he married his best friend and love of his life, Sandra Bolinsky who also grew up in Yonkers, NY. They resided in Yonkers for 7 years until moving to New Rochelle, NY in 1971. Joseph will be remembered as a loving, kind and compassionate man who always put his family first. He was a wonderful friend and leader throughout his life and career. Family and friends would always call "Joe" first for help or guidance and he was always willing to help.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sandra, their 3 beautiful daughters, Carrie Overend and spouse Jim Overend, who passed away 9 years ago, and their daughter Devin, daughter Marlene Kenny and spouse Rich Kenny who reside in Florida and daughter Tara Garcia and spouse Joey Garcia who reside in Georgia, and their sons Joey and Jack.

Joseph requested to not have a wake or funeral, rather that friends and family remember the good times when he was here with us. We will have a celebration of his life at a later date.

we will miss talking to joe he was a great guy .We were very close when we were growing up .We had so many good times,and l have a million. Memories of joe and the rest of our group of friends.Joe was an usher in my wedding party a real down to earth friend good bye Joe you are now at piece.
