Joseph Flower Obituary
Yonkers - Joseph Flower, lifelong resident of Yonkers, NY, passed away Thursday, May 3rd, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was a dedicated Phys Ed teacher, athletic director, basketball, track and golf coach at Benjamin Franklin JHS, Roosevelt HS and Mercy College. He was the winningest coach at Mercy College from 1976-1985, amassing 84 victories. He was inducted into the Mercy College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013, Joe married Mary Kaltenback on July 16, 1961. Joe and Mary enjoyed each other's company antiquing, travelling and spending time in Rockaway on the Irish Riviera. Joe was an avid golfer, a talented artist, a real life Mac Gyver and connoisseur of wine, beer and good food. He fancied himself, as did others, a fine chef and a top notch baker. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his loving daughters, Mary Flower, Ginny Russo, Patty Peyton, Karen Compri, his cherished grandchildren, Lauren Judge, Alex Compri, Charlie Peyton, Joseph Peyton, Connor Peyton and his sisters Cathy and Cindy Flower. He is predeceased by his sister Marietta Rasulo. Calling hours will be at Sinatra Funeral Home, 499 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, NY, Sunday, May 6th, from 4-9PM. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Casimir Church, Nepperhan Avenue, Yonkers, NY at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Sparrow's Nest Charity, 942 NY-376, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 or American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.

Will always have wonderful memories of Coach Flower. He was my Cross Country coach @ Roosevelt HS for 3 years. I learned teamwork, hard work and the thrill of victory with coach. He was a great teacher, leader and supporter to me and my teammates. I miss your support, guidance and humor. You were one of a kind coach. Bless you forever.

WHEN YOU WALKED INTO MY CERAMICS CLASS IN THE 9TH GRADE, YOU CHANGED MY LIFE AND HELPED MOLD ME INTO PART OF THE MAN I AM TODAY. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY SEVERAL YRS BACK TO SEE YOU AND SAY THANK YOU. I'm saddened by the news of Joe Flower's passing. He was my coach at Roosevelt HS on the Cross Country teams which won 3 Yonkers City Championships from 1970-72. Coach was a great mentor to me and the whole team. We were young and impressionable and coach molded us into a team of winners who had fun but knew what it took to win - hard work, dedication and compassion. Thanks coach for your time, caring and leadership. May God bless you
