Joseph Masciandaro Obituary
Yonkers - Joe Masciandaro, Sr., a resident of Yonkers, died peacefully of NATURAL causes on Sunday, December 6th at St. John's Riverside hospital in Yonkers. He was 92. He is survived by his sons Joseph (Jr.), Victor, and Ronald, (Teresa), and grandsons John and Ronald.Joe was born September 24, 1928, the only child to immigrant parents from Bari; Antonio Masciandaro and Maria Vinci. He was raised in East Harlem, and in 1945 his family moved to the Arthur Avenue section of the Bronx. Joe spent his military service stationed in Europe during the Korean War as a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in October 1954.He earned a Master's Degree in Political Philosophy from Fordham University in 1962. He worked 25 years at JHS82 in the Bronx, and in September 1980 he served as CIS 147 Administrative Principal until his retirement, 7/27/90.
He married his wife Eleanor on Nov 27, 1954, and was dedicated to her in marriage for 1 month shy of 60 years before her passing in 2014. Joe and his (late) wife Eleanor were daily communicants St. Ann's Parish in Yonkers.
Joe was an avid golfer, enjoyed travelling and celebrating family member's birthdays at various restaurants. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.Viewing will be held at Flower Funeral Home, 714 Yonkers Ave, on Wed. 12/9 from 7-9 pm and on Thur. 12/10 from 4-9 pm. Funeral Mass Friday 12/11 at St. Ann's Church 31 College Place, Yonkers with entombment to follow at Ferncliff Mausoleum.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:Providence Rest Nursing Home 3304 Waterbury Ave, Bronx, NY 10465 or to St. Joseph's Seminary 201 Seminary Ave Yonkers, NY 10704.

Mr Masciandaro was my social studies teacher around 1969. I have never forgotten how enthusiastic he was and how he liked to reach us practical things like how to fold and read the NYTimes on a subway and the NYChighway system. What a great teacher!

As a kid growing up in the Bronx and attending JHS 82 in 1958, i was one of his students. He was one of the best teachers i ever had. i was sad when my sister who also attended JHS 82 remembered that i had Mr. Masciandaro
for my teacher, and that he passed away.
i was truly sad to hear the news. He was a true friend to all his students.
My deepest condolences to his family. He will be truly missed.

When I saw the name "Masciandaro in my local Journal News death listings the name immediately rang a bell even though it was 60 years since I graduated from JHS 82. When I looked up the obit and saw the words "JHS 82" I knew it was him and I cried. I loved him - what a great teacher and friend to everyone who was blessed to know him. I want Joe's family to be sure to see what so many of his former students are saying so I am including a link to the facebook page for friends of Alexander Macombs JHS 82. Peter and I taught with Joe at JHS 82 in 1959 and 60. He was a great, energetic teacher and friend. Joe and Peter shared many lunch hours together. We last saw Joe at lunch in his Yonkers neighborhood. He always spoke proudly of his sons. We are sorry for your loss.
