Joseph O'Connor Obituary

O'Connor, Joseph T.

Joseph T. O'Connor passed away on August 24, 2014 at his home after a long illness. He was 85 years old. He was the son of William and Ethel Johnson O'Connor. Joe was born in Mt. Vernon, New York on December 6, 1928. He attended Mt. Vernon schools and graduated from Cornell Labor College and Harvard School of Business. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Fire Department and President of the Firefighters Union. He was very proud of his service and the men he had the honor to work and serve with. Joe went on to work with the Civil Service Employees Association as a field representative and Collective Bargaining Specialist. He thought the quality of service that the members of the CSEA received was top shelf, second to none. Joe retired from the CSEA and became a labor mediator serving on many panels in New York and Pennsylvania.

Joe is survived by his wife, Dolores Tocci O'Connor; his daughter, Staci and husband, Gary Autry, of Georgia and son, Kevin of Florida; his stepson, Andrew and wife Kelly, stepdaughter, Amy and husband Wade Stanley; grandchildren, Sean, Kaitlyn, and Kaleigh Marie. He is also survived by his brothers, Ed & wife Judy, Charlie & wife DeDe and brothers-in-law, Joseph Bruisch, William Kass, Cosmo Tocci, and sisters-in-law, Sarah Tocci and Florence Tocci Starrett. Joe was predeceased by his son, Joseph; his brothers, Bill, Patty and Jimmy and sisters, Ethel McDonald, Margaret Kass and Carol Brusich.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-5 & 7-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point. Private Cremation to follow.

Dear Dee and Family, my sympathy and prayers for your comfort. I only knew Joe slightly through a personal encounter during a mediation in the Town of Cochecton, Sullivan County, circa 1997, and through my colleagues at CSEA.

To the family of Joe O'Connor.
May God Bless and comfort each of you.
What wonderful memories I had of Joe, my friend and partner during our years working together at CSEA. He and his wife "Dee" were always cordial and true friends, when you needed one.
I know he is now with our Lord, in a safe and comfortable place, and HE will watch over Joe forever.
