Joseph Pierorazio Obituary

Joseph B. Pierorazio

Yonkers - Joseph Blase Pierorazio, a dedicated husband and loving father, passed peacefully with family at home. He was predeceased by his parents Bernardino and Filomena (Mascetta) Pierorazio.

Joseph, who was beloved by his family and friends, is survived by his wife of 76 years Lillian (DeSantis), his daughters Olivia (Ronald) Rothstein, and Phyllis (David) Shakib, his sons Joseph (Carole) Pierorazio and Bernard (Martina) Pierorazio; a sister Eleanor (Tocco) and a brother Fred (Florence) Pierorazio.

He was most proud of his grandchildren; David (Patty) Rothstein, Esq; Dana (Greg) Rothstein, MA; Phillip (Sarah) Pierorazio, MD; Michael (Jillian) Pierorazio, Esq;, Erik Pierorazio, BS, and Erin (Chris) Thiagarajah, MS.

Poppy Joe, as he was affectionately known, was most infatuated with his eight great grandchildren: Lucas Hayden and Haley Nicole Brennar, Aiden Julius and Ava Jade Rothstein, Kaye Lillianna and Cameron Aurora Pierorazio, Lillian Isabella Pierorazio and Elena Everly Thiagarajah. Joseph was born on March 19, 1920 and was educated in the Yonkers Public Schools.

As all young men of the time with a fervent love of country and a member of the "Greatest Generation", he went off to war in 1942 and served as a Corporal in the United States Army. He was trained as a Military Police Escort stateside and then retrained as an assistant Field Hospital Technician and spent the remainder of the conflict with the 75th Field Hospital on the island of Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in January 1946.

Returning home to his native Yonkers, he was employed by the City of Yonkers as a proud member of Local 456, from which he retired in 1982. During retirement Joe became an avid golfer, enjoying his weekly round of golf at Grassy Sprain with his Rauso Post buddies.
