Oh, Joe, you will be so incredibly missed by so many!

You have touched so many lives, young and older. Your leadership, generosity, encouragement, support, relentlessness-selfless dedication, ... There are no words that can best describe the legacy you leave behind. It spreads much further away and reaches much deeper than anyone can imagine. You are a true star and your light will live forever.

It was a real privilege and honor to have met you. We truly wish your family and loved ones our deepest and most sincere condolences.

With much sorrow,

Steve, Maria, Adrian, and Alejandro Kahaner

I knew Joe from Ardsley, went to Stepinac High School with him taking the long school bus rides from Ardsley to White Plains, lived at Granada Cresent in the 80's when he and Stephanie did, and played on an over 30's softball team with him. After loosing touch with him for 30 years or more, we reconnected with a bunch of Ardsley/Dobbs Ferry friends and began having dinners together every few months right up to a few months ago.

He was a friend and I'll never forget him. He always had a kind word and was generous with his time. Couldn't ask for anything more from a life long friend.

My heart goes out to Stephanie and his family.

Joe was an extraordinary public servant. He extracted joy and meaning from his service. Joe adjudicated all of the superintendent's hearings in our district over the past 17 years, always striking a balance between discipline and humanity. My entire administrative team and office staff will greatly miss Joe and his generous spirit. I hope his family takes solace in knowing he had a positive effect on so many young lives.

Loyal friend, like no other, known to me as a dedicated and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a meaningful addition in our law practice, a staunch defender of countless people who needed him. Kind and generous. In recent years, whenever I reached out to him, he continued to guide me in his specialty field of Education Law, which he loved. We first met at the telephone company, later we both attended PACE Law School, nights while we continued to work for the telephone company. We became immediate friends, it lasted over 40 years. There is a void in my heart, Joe, I love you and await meeting you in the beyond.

You are a legend in your own time Joe. You are an angel as you already earned your wings on earth. Your leadership ability and your take charge attitude in the Civil Air Patrol were honed as a result of your Vietnam experience. As an Army retiree and Vietnam Era veteran we connected when I first met you at CAP 12 years ago and knew we were kindred spirits. You became a true friend and mentor. To say that you will be missed is an understatement, but I know your spirit will live on in all the people you have touched during your time on earth. You have left a rich legacy. May God bless you and your family.

Thanks for serving this country Sir. I also spent my time in Nam and worked with Joe for a time with the NY Telephone Co. You take care Joe and when you see my father say hello for me. Joe, I don't believe that Robert was beyond every achieving recovery, he has come a long way. Rest In Peace Joe.
