Justin Acocella Obituary

Acocella, Justin C.

Justin C. Acocella of Pelham Manor, passed away on August 13, 2011 after a courageous, lifelong battle with chronic lung disease.

Justin was born on November 19, 1981 in New Rochelle to Charles and Elisse (Barbieri) Acocella. He graduated from Pelham Memorial High School in 1999 and from Iona College in 2006 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. He was active with lighting and sound design during and after high school, performing these duties at many school plays and community functions.

Justin was a volunteer EMT with Larchmont Volunteer Ambulance Corps (2005-present) and Mamaroneck Emergency Medical Service (2000-2005). He also worked as a bartender at Edo's Japanese Steakhouse in Pelham Manor for many years.

Justin enjoyed taking trips with his friends, working on his cars, and driving his WWII motorcycle with his friends riding in the sidecar. Justin was a carefree spirit, who was passionate in all that he did and touched the lives of all who knew him. His volunteerism was a reflection of his constant willingness to help others which he continued after his death. Portions of his lungs were donated for medical research to greater understand his disease.

Justin passed away while waiting for a lung transplant, but never let his debilitating condition keep him from enjoying life. His positive outlook was an inspiration to all. Those interested in becoming an organ donor at the time of their death are encouraged to register at http://optn.transplant.hrsa.gov/ (federal) or http://www.donatelife.com/ (state). It can also be done when obtaining/renewing a driver's license.

He is survived by his parents, Charles and Elisse, his brother David, sister Larissa and his loving dogs, Dean and Max.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, 8/16 and Wednesday, 8/17 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc., 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday, 8/18 10 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Pelham Manor N.Y. Internment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla N.Y. Sisto & Paino Inc. Justin is missed deeply by our family. His smile will never be forgotten, and his positive, giving nature is a moving example to us all. With his caring dedication, his time volunteering as an EMT changed lives of those he helped through his years of service. Justin's strength and faith, through all of the adversity that he faced, will be a source of courage for me throughout my life. I miss you, cousin, and my thoughts and prayers go out to Elise, Charlie, Larissa, and David. Love Always, Lisa

Charles and Elisee,
I am deeply sorry to hear the sad news about Justin. My heart goes out to you for your precious loss. I too, know the unbearable pain of losing a son, who had a life long illness. There is a special bond between child and parent. Suddenly your lives have changed! But remembering the wonderful moments you shared with Justin and the blessings he brought to all can help to comfort you thru any difficult times. And most of all, may the God of Love, sustain you with His promise of HOPE for the future. When He will soon end all suffering on the earth. How do we know this is not just a dream or wishful thinking? Because what He says always comes to be.
Hope will not take away your pain, but it will enable you to endure.
"He will wipe out every tear from their eyes and DEATH will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. And the One seated on the throne said; "Look! I am making all things NEW.....these words are faithful and TRUE."

I didn't know Justin well but I had the pleasure of meeting him years ago. When I first joined the world of emergency services, I can recount on numerous occasions Justin going out of his way to say hello; whether on a call or around town. As many of you know, being the new guy in a tightly knit "brotherhood" can be tough. Justin always made a point to make me feel welcomed, which is something that some are not always eager to do. Getting acknowledged by a more senior member may not seem like a big deal but for the new guy, its almost a sense of belonging. Because of him, I try to do the same with the new faces that come around. I will always remember Justin as that. His life was cut too short but his name will live on forever. Rest in peace, brother.

I am so very sorry for your recent loss. How sad it is when we lose someone we love but especially someone so young who has yet to begin their life. It may bring some comfort to know the God of all comfort promises that we will see our loved ones again and they will live a life that is free of pain, sorrow, and especially never have to die. What a marvelous time that will be!
