Justin C. Walker, M.D. of Yonkers, NY passed away peacefully on May 31st, 2010. He was 86. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years Gloria (Locker), daughter Susan and son in law Michael Shepherd, daughter Patricia Walker, M.D., son William Walker (Pathfinder Village), son John Walker and daughter-in-law Ellen. He is also survived by his grandchildren David, Jennifer and Allison. Predeceased by his parents Margaret (Green) and William Joseph Walker and brother, William Whitney Walker, M.D. Born and raised in the Bronx, Justin attended Regis High school and later graduated from Columbia University, N.Y. He served as a proud member of U.S. Infantry during World War II, active in campaigns with the 42nd Rainbow Division in both France and Germany. He participated in the liberation of the concentration camp at Dachau, April 29, 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Heroism, the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the New York Conspicuous Service Medal. Following his military service, he graduated from State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, College of Medicine. He received his training in general surgery at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City where he met the nurse that would become his loving wife. Dr Walker joined the staff at St. John's Riverside Hospital in 1956 where his brother, William, was a well respected general practitioner. During his 42 year career he served as Chief of General Surgery, Director of Surgery and Chief of Staff at Yonkers General Hospital and was Director of Medical Education at St. Joseph's and Misericordia Hospitals. In addition to his hospital appointments, Dr. Walker was president of the Yonkers Practitioners Club, Yonkers Academy of Medicine, Westchester Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and the Westchester Surgical Society.He was a member of the Board of Trustees of The Westchester Medical Society and served five terms on the Ethics Committee. He was a Diplomat of The American Board of Surgery and Fellow of The American College of Surgeons. He has left an indelible mark on Westchester's medical Community.The family would like to express sincere thanks to all those friends, neighbors and peers who extended their support and kindness. Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, June 4th, 2010 at 10am at St. Joseph's Church in Bronxville, NY. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
