LEO FERRIS Obituary

Leo C. Ferris, a lifelong Peekskill resident, died Sunday at the NY State Veteran's Home. He was 93. Leo retired from his work as a Chemist in 1982, working for Stauffer Chemical, in Newburgh and its predecessor, DuPont, and also for Standard Coated, in Buchanan. He was born on March 1, 1915 in Peekskill to Leo and Lyda Henry Ferris. Mr. Ferris served in the US Navy during World War II. On January 25, 1946 he was married to Anne Sekel at the Episcopal Church of the Divine Love, where he was a parishioner , and where he served on the Church Vestry. Mrs. Ferris died in 2007. He also served on the Hen Hud School Board from 1959-1973. Leo was also a member of the Cortlandt Hook and Ladder Co. # 1 in the Peekskill Fire Dept. He is survived by a son James, of Peekskill, his daughters, Judith (William) Curtis, of Watertown, and Janet (Matthew) Balch, of Peekskill, 11 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Besides his wife, Mr. Ferris is also predeceased by a son, Robert, in 2004. There will be a Funeral Service on Thursday at 10AM at EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 170 Kings Ferry Rd. Montrose, where friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9. Burial is in Sunset Cemetery.
