Leonard Curran Obituary

Curran, Leonard Francis

Leonard Francis Curran, of Orangeburg, died March 6, 2011 at Nyack Hospital at the age of 85. He was born in Yonkers to Leonard M. and Eileen O'Brien Curran. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Naval Medical Corp., aboard the aircarft carrier USS Hancock. (1943-1946) He attended Sacred Heart High School and Saunders Vocational in Yonkers. After the war Leonard, a licensed pharmacist, earned a B.S. from Fordam Univiversity in 1950. He was the owner and sole proprieter of Curran's Pharmacy on Webster Ave. in the Bronx, NY. for 15 yrs. In 1966, he began a career in law enforcement, and served 25 yrs as a Sr. narcotics investigator for the NY State Dept of Health. He worked closely with the DEA on a number of high profile cases. He earned an M.S. in Criminal Justice from Long Island University in 1980. He was a life member of the International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association, serving terms on the Board of Directors and as recording secretary. After retirement, he continued as a consultant for Buzzeo Associates, Ltd, DEA and PDMA regulatory advisors. Leonard was predeceased by Lois (nee:McCue), his lovely wife of 58 years, their son Michael, who died in 1950 , and his brother James Curran. Devoted children, Eileen Gillespie, Lois Annn Castro, Kevin Curran, Maureen Gastelum and her husband Paul, Brian Curran and his wife Inge, and Kathleen DelCasale and her husband Mark. He was the proud and beloved grandfather of 15 grandchildren, and great-grandfather of 10 great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, 11:15AM, at St. Catherine's R.C. Church in Blauvelt with burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill. Visiting hours will be Thursday, 7-9PM, and Friday 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. Lois Ann, Kevin, Maureen, Brian and Kathleen: You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Uncle Lenny was a one of a kind! I loved his impish smile and his contagious laugh. The last of the tribe is now united with our other angels in heaven! RIP Dear Uncle, You are loved.
