LOUIS SUSSMAN Obituary

Louis Sussman of Spring Valley died Saturday, November 24, 2001, at the age of 87. He was born in October 9, 1914, in New York City, to Isadore and Mollie (Berman) Sussman. Mr. Sussman, a WWII veteran (1942-1945), served as Radioman Third Class in five theaters of operation, including the Normandy Invasion on D-Day. He married Anne Stern (1945) and moved to Rockland County in 1952. He owned and operated the Rockland Egg Farm in Monsey until 1973 and drove a school bus for Ramapo Schools. As a resident of Hickory House since 1978, he was active in the Hilcrest Association. Mr. Sussman, also a collector of ephemera, postcards, and books for over 50 years, often displayed postcards in the yearly Bear Mountain Christmas Festival. His Statue of Liberty memorabilia was a part of the 1986 Centennial Celebration. His cards of ocean liners are displayed at Ellis Island. His parents, his dear wife of 32 years, two brothers, Sam and Max Sussman, and two sisters, Ceil Pruger and Fannie Klein preceded Mr. Sussman in death. Survivors include his daughters, Jessie Livingston of Glastonbury, Ct., Alice Mannix of Bloomington, IN., and Laurie Sussman of Middletwon, NY; grandchildren, Molly Babyak and Edward Mannix, III; and great-granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Babyak. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, November 27, 2001, at Louis Suburban Chapels in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Mr. Sussman will be deeply missed by family, friends, and neighbors.
