Louise Rand Obituary

Rand, Louise L.

Louise L. Rand, a longtime White Plains resident, died peacefully at home in Bay Shore on February 16 at age 93. She was the wife of the late Harry Rand. Born Anna Louise Larkin in Martins Ferry, Ohio, Louise graduated from the Ruth Brandt School of Nursing and the U.S. Air Force School of Aviation Medicine and served in WWII as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army's 830th Medical Air Evacuation Squadron. Stationed in Karachi, which was then in India, Louise was a flight nurse, bringing the wounded soldiers back to the United States. After separating from the service, she was a camp nurse for the Boy Scouts of America in Japan and New York, a pediatric nurse at Meadowbrook Hospital on Long Island and a Public Health Nurse with the Westchester County Department of Health. Louise also went back to school, graduating from Columbia University Teachers College with a B.S. degree in nursing education. Louise had been a member of the White Plains and Bay Shore Garden Clubs, the White Plains Woman's Club, The College Club of White Plains, St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in White Plains and St. Peter's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Bay Shore. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Wolfgang Braun of San Francisco and Lark and Don Shlimbaum of Bay Shore, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. Interment will be with Harry at Arlington National Cemetery on May 27, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. with full military honors.
