MARIO SCAVELLI Obituary
Mario D. Scavelli, Sr. age 67, of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida and Jefferson Valley, New York, passed away July 20 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He endured his illness with grace and a positive spirit. Mario was born December 8, 1939 to Salveria and Frank Scavelli. He was born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx. He married his soul mate, Diane Vitiello, on July 16, 1961 at Our Lady of Victory Church in Mount Vernon. He worked for Gannett Suburban Newspapers for almost 40 years as a pressman. Mario and Diane raised their children in Pleasantville, NY and lived there from 1965 to 1986. Mario coached his son's little league baseball team and football team for many years. In 1986, they moved to Somers and then finally to Daytona Beach Shores when they both retired in 1998. Mario and Diane enjoyed walking the sandy beaches everyday as the sun came up on the ocean. Mario will always be remembered for his good cooking, good humor and his love for his family and the New York Yankees. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Diane; his son, Mario, Jr. and wife, Lori of Mahopac, NY. His daughter, Lisa Whitaker and her husband, Will of Durham, North Carolina and his beloved grandsons, Nicholas and Jonathan Scavelli of Mahopac. Brother, Joseph Scavelli and wife, Theresa of Sun City, California. Predeceased by his parents and sister, Tessie Tverdohleb. He was uncle and godfather to many nieces and nephews. Mario and his family were grateful for the support of medical care provided by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Hospital, where he was treated with the utmost care and respect. Also for the wonderful care and support from Calvary Hospital. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mario's memory may be made to Calvary Hospital, 1740 Eastchester Road, Bronx, New York. Family will receive friends at Cargain Funeral Home, Route 6 on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Church Service Tuesday, 10 am, at Saint Joseph's Church, Croton Falls.
