MARTIN E. DEVITT

Martin E. Devitt of Pelham, NY, passed away on Sunday, December 22. He was 84. Born on February 21, 1918 in Jersey City, NJ to Martin and May Sands Devitt, he was educated in Pelham and graduated from Pelham Memorial High School. On November 8, 1941 he married Jeannette Portune at St. Catharine's Church in Pelham. Martin was a WWII US Army Veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was employed by Gardner-Denver Corporation for 27 years until his retirement in 1974. On October 3, 1973 he married Dorothy Schuler of Key Colony Beach, FL. Martin served as Trustee in the Village of North Pelham and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Pelham, NY and Marathon, FL. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Devitt of Mooresville, NC, his son, Craig Devitt of Montgomery, AL, his daughters, Jan Durnin and Karen Devitt of Pelham, NY, and his sisters, Jean Kavanagh of Jupiter, FL, and Dorothy Rock of New Rochelle, NY, five grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Jeannette, an infant daughter, Jill Marie and brothers, James and Robert. The family will receive friends at Pelham Funeral Home on Thursday, December 26, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Catharine's Church on Friday, December 27 at 10 am. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Rochelle, NY. In lieu of flowers, friends may send donations in his memory to The Danny Fund, PO Box 271, Pelham, NY, 10803.
