MATTHEW HERTZ Obituary

HERTZ, DR. MATTHEW J., DDSDr. Matthew J. Hertz, DDS, 70, a former Ardsley resident, died January 22, 2005 in Boynton Beach, FL. Dr. Hertz was born in Brooklyn on December 12, 1934, the son of Simon and Mary (Owrutsky) Hertz. Dr. Hertz graduated DeWitt Clinton High School, New York University and from New York University School of Dentistry. He served at the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1961. On March 22, 1959, he married Cynthia Wasserman in the Bronx. Together, they settled in Ardsley, where Dr. Hertz was active in many organizations. For 20 years, he was the chairman of the Ardsley Recreation Dept., and was the Ardsley representative to Akzo Chemical Co., and United Water Co. He was the past president and chairman of the JCC on the Hudson in Tarrytown. Dr. Hertz was the representative for the National American Dental Association from the Bronx and was the past president of the Bronx Dental Association. He retired from his dental practice in Riverdale, where he worked with is son, nephew and brother-in-law. In 2000, Dr. Hertz participated in the National Security Forum at the Air Force War College. Dr. Hertz had an affinity for athletics, especially tennis which he played several times a week. Surviving are his wife, Cynthia; his son, Dr. Paul Hertz and his wife, Karen; daughter, Deborah Hertz Levitt and her husband, David and daughter, Erica Weiss and her husband, Steve; grandchildren: Samantha and Jake Hertz, Caleb Levitt and Ethan Weiss. Funeral, 12:30 pm, Tuesday (today), Congregation Sons of Israel, 1666 Pleasantville Rd., Briarcliff Manor, NY. Memorials to the JCC on the Hudson, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Hadassah or the American Cancer Society appreciated.
