Melvin Amler Obituary
Somers - Dr. Melvin H. Amler, dentist, biomedical researcher, author, World War II veteran, died February 13, 2021. Born NYC March 10, 1921, Graduate CCNY and NYU College of Dentistry. Served as Army Officer WWII Pacific Theater and Japanese occupation. Practiced dentistry in NYC for 55 years and conducted NIH-sponsored research as adjunct professor NYU.

Predeceased by wife Helene (Nini) Rosenthal Rollin and brother Dr. Alfred B. Amler. Survived by sister-in-law Renee Rollin, son Dr. Robert Amler (Dr. Sherlita Amler), daughters Caroline Mechanick, Jennifer Goldstein, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sending condolences to you and your families on your dad's passing. I have so many wonderful memories of your dad and mom at Lake Oscawana. They were great neighbors and family friends, and we were all so fond of them. I loved the many catching up conversations that happened as someone was wading in the water, swimming to the raft, talking through the hedges or walking around those for a proper visit! It was so sweet and happy. They were great people and so proud of you all. May his and your mom's memory be for a blessing -

As a result of a chance reading Dr. Amler’s obit I bought and read his book Midnight on Mindanao. My father also served in combat in the Philippines in WWII. The book is an excellent human account of that very hard time and place. A good man is down. May his eternity be what he wants and needs.

During my New York years, I was blessed to have Mel Amler as my Dentist. He was kind and considerate. Supportive and understanding. Smart and funny. It was harder to leave New York because of him. RIP old friend. You will be missed.
