Michael Belloise Obituary

Belloise, Michael John

Michael John Belloise, 102, of Clifton Park, formerly of Yorktown Heights, passed peacefully on August 2, 2016, at home and with loved ones by his side. He was born in Waterbury, Ct. to Anna (Caserta, Italy) and Andrea Belloise (Baiano, Italy). He was fortunate to grow up in a large traditional Italian family of five children. He lived as a child in Waterbury, Ct., eventually moved to the Bronx and then settled in Yorktown Heights (47 years) and lastly in Clifton Park. He was a wonderful husband and father. Mike was an excellent bridge player and he met his wife Janet while playing cards together in a bridge club. They were somewhat of opposites, but truly soulmates and enjoyed a long happy marriage of 50 years, mostly spent in Yorktown Heights. Mike and Jan had two sons, Michael and Bill. Mike was a true teacher and role model for his sons. He was a very intelligent, respectable man, who had an unusually high energy level and enjoyed exceptional health his whole life. He had a great sense of humor and brought lots of laughter to those who knew him. Mike grew up during the Great Depression and like many of his generation this affected his character in life, making him disciplined and grateful for what he had. He graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelors in Liberal Arts. He worked as a Quality Inspector for an airplane factory, a Program Director in Radio, and then for the Federal government in Customs and Social Security, which included writing a published article about Social Security for Reader's Digest. He retired in his 50s and enjoyed a long period of creativity, travel and companionship with his wife Janet. During this time they traveled all over the world and would often take weekly trips to New York City. Some of his best memories were of a world cruise they took that spanned several months and covered much of the world. Mike was an avid reader throughout his life. He also loved to write and completed a few novels, plays and poems that he referred to as 'Poems Sort Of.' He loved to paint and his home was always full of his paintings. He created a patent for a 'slip-on mailbox' idea that was accepted by the patent office. As in any long life he encountered his share of adversity, which he always faced up to with courage and without complaint. When it came to family he showed great loyalty, especially to his wife Jan in both sickness and in health. He is predeceased by his wife Janet, his brother Artie Belloise and sisters Lee Sica and Yola Rogali. He is survived by his son William (Alison) Belloise and grandson Ben, son Michael A. Belloise and granddaughter Cassidy and a great-grandson. He is also survived by his youngest sister Irma Johanson and many nephews and nieces. His life was an example of honor, courage, loyalty, energy, health and enjoyment. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave. in Delmar, NY.

Dear Bill

I was glad to speak with you last week about your father. He was such an inspirational person who believed in the humanities and understanding other cultures. His library was such a great thing to behold, and I remember he let me borrow the Koran to read. Though I didn't understand much of it, the thoughts were deep.

Peace be with you and your family.

Sincerely

Your friend

Russell
