Nell McCracken Obituary

WELCH, W.Va. – Nell B. "Granny Bud" McCracken, age 77, went to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving and dedicated family on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Welch Community Hospital.
Born May 21, 1931, in Meadowview, Va., she was the daughter of the late Dale and Rana Jackson Boyd. She was a resident of Welch the past 40 years. She was of the Protestant faith, a graduate of Meadowview High School, and she loved flowers and playing bingo. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and Christian.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, George, and one sister, Goldie.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Ernie McCracken of Stewart Street, Welch; one son, Jerry McCracken and fiancée Paula of Pineville; one daughter, Debbie McCracken of Welch; two sisters, Irene Tuell of Chesapeake, Va., and Sally Bass of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Timothy and Heather McCracken of Rocky Mount, Va., Wendy and Tito Sanchez-Ruiz of Fayetteville, N.C., and Nicholas and Nicole Hicks of Welch; her great-grandchildren, Heather, Kayla, Cody, Tyshawn, Aiden and Xander; stepgreat-grandchildren, Jena, Kayla, Alexis, Kachina and Bryndan; and the children she raised following her brothers passing, Vicky, Christie and Carrie. Also left to treasure her special memories is her caring "second" family of loving and caring nursing staff at the Welch Community Hospital, who took very excellent care of her during her time admitted there, as well as Dr. Eels.
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, June 1, 2008, at 1 p.m. from the Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Abingdon, Va., with the Rev. Michael Brooks officiating. Burial will follow the service. Friends may call Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Fanning Funeral Home in Welch from 6 to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and close family friends. Honorary pallbearer will be Jeff "Bo Duke" Groseclose.
