Paul Rivet Obituary

Rivet, Paul H.

Paul H. Rivet, age 88, passed away on April 22nd at home, surrounded by his family. Born in NYC, he was a WW II veteran and a ski trooper. Honorably discharged, he went to college on the GI bill at NYU and Brooklyn Law School. Longtime staff for the NYS Senate, he was an active Democrat where he met Diana W. Rivet. She was the love of his life and they were happily married for 64 years.

Paul's spirit carries forth in the many lives he touched and the message of right living that he embodied. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather as well as a friend, mentor, teacher, organizer, visionary and tireless public servant. He challenged all he met to think for themselves and to participate in government to make the world a better place. The world has lost a warm and loving man who embraced his life and lived it well.

Diana and Paul founded the Environmental Law Section of the NYS Bar Association. They prevented the spraying of Harriman Park with 2-4 D in the 1960s and he argued Rockland voter redistricting all the way to the US Supreme Court. He sued to put Jimmy Carter on the NYS ballot. All were pro bono (free). He built the Cogeneration power plant at the Bronx Zoo which made Jungle World and many other exhibits possible.

Paul is survived by his wife, Diana W. Rivet and his children, Clayton Rivet, Robin Rivet, Leslie Glenn and Heather Frame-Emery, their spouses Don Glenn and Richard Emery, and his two grandchildren, Ryan and Dillon Frame. He is predeceased by his son, Eric Rivet.

In the spirit of the Quakers, a memorial service will be held on Thursday April 28th at 6:00 pm at the Rockland Friends Meeting House in Blauvelt, NY. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a worthy cause.

Robin Rivet

Thanks to all who came and shared moments of tribute and memorial to my father. Life will never be the same for me - since his passing. Despite his huge concern for civic duty, he was first and foremost a family man. I learned much from his example about what should and should not matter in my own life, and I'm still following in his large footsteps.
