PAULINA F. KERNBERG

Paulina F. Kernberg, MD, of Scarsdale, New York, died April 12, 2006 at age 71. She was born in Santiago, Chile on January 10, 1935 to Isaace and Rebecca (nee Ostray) Fischer. Dr. Kernberg was an eminent child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. She was a Professor of Psychiatry at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, and served as the former Director of Child and Adolescent Training at New York HospitalCornell Medical Center, Westchester Division. She also was a Supervising and Training Psychoanalyst at the Columbia Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. Based on her numerous professional accomplishments and publications, the US Immigration and Naturalization Services selected Dr. Kernberg to consult on the Elian Gonzalez case. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Otto Kernberg, children, Dr. Martin Kernberg (Karrie), Dr. Karen Bardenstein (David) and Adine Varah (Sean), her six grandchildren; Annessa, Ian, Daniel, Sarina, Sonia and James, siblings; Leon Fischer (Sylvia), Abraham Fischer, Tomas Fischer (Evelyn), Violetta Berdichevsky (Manuel) and Mauricio, deceased, (Raquel). Funeral Service will be today, Friday, at 10 am at Bet Am Shalom Synagogue in White Plains, followed by interment at Sharon Gardens Cemetery.
