Peter J. Lombardi of Pelham, NY, passed away on July 31, 2013, from complications after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in New York City on June 22, 1955. Peter was a lifelong resident of Pelham where he attended Colonial Elementary School, Pelham Middle School, Pelham High School and Iona College. Peter worked in sales at Longines-Wittnauer Watch Company prior to owning a popular sporting goods store in Eastchester, NY, named Sportland. Peter was an active volunteer in various Pelham activities, most notably, co-founder and President of the Pelham Youth Tackle Association since 1999. Peter was an accomplished athlete in his youth, was passionate about his business and volunteer work and became an avid, accomplished golfer later on. Peter is predeceased by his father, Frank Lombardi. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Lombardi; his son Peter John Jr.; and his daughter, Caroline. He is also survived by his mother, Eleanor Lombardi of New Rochelle; his six siblings, Marie Grosso (Fran), Linda Sallustio (Frank), Lillian Sibrizzi (Steve), Jean Kitay (Tom), John Lombardi and Francine Arred (Ralph). Peter also had 7 sisters-in-law and their spouses, 24 nieces and nephews and 8 great-nieces and nephews. Peter was a loving, caring family man with a multitude of close friends and family who surrounded him throughout his life and supported him, especially in his final battle. Peter will be especially remembered for his keen sense of humor, his amazing physical and mental strength, his kindness towards others and his true love of life. Services will be held Friday, at Pelham Funeral Home, on Lincoln Avenue, August 2nd, from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Catherine's Church, on 2nd Avenue in Pelham. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Peter's name to the following Pelham Charities.
