Rex Bernstein Obituary

Bernstein, Rex Louie

On Saturday, January 10, Rex Bernstein, 22 years and 1 month old exactly, died peacefully in his sleep. Rex was a big guy with a big heart, a big smile, a big laugh and a twinkle in his eye. Rex had a quick wit and a lot of opinions. He had the courage of his convictions. He loved and was loved by many: his parents, his sister Olive, his cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles, his friends in Nyack, in the world of swimming, at Wesleyan, and the community of musicians around the world that watched him grow from a boy to a man. And his dog Gato.

Rex made us proud every day. We love you, Rex.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Nyack Center on Sunday, January 25 at noon. To honor Rex's deep love of animals, contributions can be made in his name to: Dapper Dog // Hopeful Tails Rescue, 37A Route 59, Nyack, NY 10960.

So sad to hear this tragic news. Although I am not friend or family, just a fan of Steve's music. I was saddened to hear the news. I remember a few sex mob shows were Steve would mention his kids. Much love to the Bernstein's and everyone who knew and loved Rex.

Dear Karen, Olive and Steven,
You've been constantly in our thoughts and we keep talking about Rex who made such an impression as a senior fellow swimmer on Nikola, both in and out of the pool. Nikola talks about how he looked up to him and remembers him fondly. We are very saddened by his untimely passing. Some comfort is in knowing that his young life had been happy and productive, he was loved and sheltered by family and close knit community he was part of.
We are sending our heartfelt condolences and love, and wish that in time you would find some solace in wonderful memories you must have, and in each other.

Dear Stephen Karen Olive,
I am speechless other than to say how shocked and sad I feel. My heart breaks for you. Even from a distance my daughter Shiloh said "WHO is THAT ?" When she saw Rex in town. The whole town is in mourning. It's a loss that just can not make sense.

Right now‚ when your loss is so fresh‚ it may be difficult for you to imagine that this pain will ever go away. But in time the blessing of God's unfailing love will soften the hurt that you're feeling and bring your heart the peace‚ comfort‚ and hope that it needs to heal. Until then‚ please remember there's a circle of friends surrounding you who are embracing you‚ and lifting you up in prayer. Proverbs 17:17
