ROBERT GSCHAAR Obituary
Robert Joseph Gschaar, age 55 of Spring Valley, NY, a victim of the World Trade Center disaster on Tuesday September 11, 2001. Mr. Gschaar was born on March 8, 1946 in the Bronx, the son of Joseph and Marianna Paske Gschaar. He attended Clinton High School and then went to L.I.U. Mr. Gschaar married Myrta Gschaar October 4, 1987 in Spring Valley. He was employed by AON Corp. at the World Trade Center since July 7, 2001. He was in the insurance industry for over 35 years with both the ULICO and AIG Insurance Company's. History was his life and second love. He loved to study, in great detail, all the wars, (Greek, Civil, WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam War and the Middle East Conflict), politics and the Bible of all faiths. He also loved to have a challenge of all the wars. Mr. Gschaar purchased a book the weekend before the attack on the World Trade Center called the Art of War and discussed with his family his fear of working at the Trade Center and how "if a terrorist was to attack, the World Trade Center would be a target". He loved New York and was very proud of it. He was a member of the Civil War Trust, the Noble Collection, The Military Heritage, the History Book Club, Amnesty International USA, St. Joseph's Indian School, World Wild Life Fund, Habitat Movement and other charitable organizations. He had a love for all music, partially classical and opera, stemming from his mother's love of opera, she was an accomplished opera singer. Mr. Gschaar enjoyed to cook and eat all international foods. His love for culture always left you wondering which language he was going to speak next. His sense of humor always left you studying something new. The best way to describe him was that he was the best teacher that always made you laugh. As a husband he was kind, generous, devoted, loving and sensitive. He loved to have fun with his family and always lood forward to being with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Myrta Gschaar, his 4 daughters, Mayra Leitner of Toledo, Ohio, Bernadette Opsahl of Seattle, Washington, Vanessa Williams of Seattle, Washington and Michelle Quinones of Abilene, Texas. His 4 grandchildren, Luis, Cynthia, Lee Ann and Gilberto. Family will receive family and friends on Thursday October 4 at 11:30AM in St. Anthony's Church where a memorial Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon. Myrta is seeking help to set up a fund in Robert's remembrance to acquire history books for all children, his words were always "Children do not read enough and they must not loose track of their cultures, heritage and what our founding fathers have freed us from, to pursue a life of freedom and happiness".
