Robert Heitman Obituary

Robert "Bob" Heitman

Piermont - Former Piermont resident, actor Robert "Bob" Heitman, died in a hospital near his Florida retirement home. He was 83 and had suffered a stroke.

Bob and his wife, Marilyn, lived in Piermont for over 20 years; in a house that their friends will always call the Heitman house. Bob was active in the Piermont Civic Association, serving as its treasurer for many years. He cared deeply about the village, often visiting in the summer.

Born on January 26, 1936, in Queens, NY, he grew up on a farm in Middletown, NY. After graduating from Middletown High School, he headed off to MIT where he earned a BA in Civil Engineering.

Bob then joined the Army, spending four years in France. Discharged as a Captain, he worked with his father in the family contracting business. After seven years, he finally told his skeptical father that he was quitting to pursue his show business dreams.

Those dreams came true. For nearly 50 years, he worked on the stage, in commercials, films and television. He had a long run as Dr. Stan Clader in the soap opera, "All My Children." His deep baritone was his calling card, and almost everyone that knew him remembers him for his voice.

After retiring to Florida, Bob found a wonderful, supportive community in the theater of St. Petersburg. He spent many happy years working on local stages, especially at The Studio@620. It became his home away from home.

Bob was not only a marvelous actor, but a kind, loving and generous man. He lived his life as "an adventure," always seeking the next opportunity to experience life. He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of more than 55 years, four children, Debbie, Wendy, David and Paula; his sister Linda and brother Tom; five grandchildren: Mike, Matt, Renee, Sabrina and Cole.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Studio@620, 620 1st Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL 33701 http://www.thestudioat620.org/

What an iconic man Mr. Heitman is in my mind. From the first days I was fortunate enough to meet then get to know him, Mrs. Heitman, Paula, and David (since 1979? 80? 81?), he has always been stuck in my mind as a role model of sorts. Such a great personality, attitude, commitment to his wife, kids, community are a just a few examples. His pride for all of kids (some of which I hadn't met) has always been so loud and clear. His warm, baritone greetings and deep interest in people made him a magnet for conversations. He's one of those dudes who could connect with a young person or a senior fluidly. I think the last time I saw him was at my parent's house in the summer of 2018. It was such heart-breaking news to hear that he passed away. It really, really struck me hard. Sending all of my condolences.

To the family, you have my sincere condolences. When someone falls asleep in death (Ecclesiastes 9: 5,10) the memories we have of them become our most precious treasure. May those memories comfort you as well as Gods promise at John 6:40.

My deepest sympathy

And the Lord Says; Be prepared to let go of anything I take from you,
But Never Let Go of My Hand

IN LOVING MEMORY
ROBERTDAD

What would I give to clasp his hand?
His happy face to see.
To hear his voice, and see his smile,
That meant so much to me.
I will think of him in silence,
His name I will oft recall,
But there's nothing left to answer
But his picture on the wall.
Surrounded by friends I am lonesome,
In the midst of my joys I am blue;
A smile on my face but a heartache inside,
Longing, dear SWEETHEART-DAD for you.
The rolling stream of Life goes on,
But still the vacant chair
Reminds me of the fact and smile of
OUR LOVE who once sat there.
