ROBERT KNACK Obituary
Robert G. Knack, Sr. of New City, NY passed away on November 1, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was 76. Robert was born in Chicago, IL on August 10, 1932 to Robert and Dorothy Knack. Robert served his country proudly with the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Kimberly DD521 from 1950-1954. Robert married Shirley Kersey in 1952 at Grace Methodist Church in Brooklyn, NY and moved to New City in 1960. Mr. Knack was a member of Local #1 and employed by Westinghouse as an Elevator Foreman in New York City from 1954 to 1976 and from 1976 to 1996, worked at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, NY as an Elevator Mechanic. Robert was an active member of New City United Methodist Church since 1960 and was always willing to volunteer when he was needed. He was a member of New City Senior Citizens Club #2 and was a Jr. Vice Commander for the Veterans of Foreign War Clarkstown Memorial Post #851. Some of Robert's best memories came from being a member of the Problem Solvers Men's Club, which met every morning at the Nanuet Mall and solved the world's problems. Robert will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and as a man who loved his church and country. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley, one son Robert, Jr. of Washingtonville, NY, one daughter, Sharon Knack Di Donato of Tuckahoe, NY and five devoted grandchildren, Christine Gentile, Suzanne Knack, Kristina Di Donato, Lorial Knack and Bobby Knack and one great-granddaughter, Alexis Gentile. Friends may call Monday and Tuesday at the Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main Street, New City, NY from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. VFW Post #851 will hold services Tuesday at 7:30 PM. Religious services will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the New City United Methodist Church with Interment to follow at Germonds Cemetery with full military honors.
