RUSSELL GEE Obituary

Dr. Russell Orin Gee II, M.D., 44, of West Hartford, Connecticut died unexpectedly on Thursday evening (April 17, 2003). He leaves behind a loving and devoted wife, Jill M. Peters-Gee, M.D. and two adoring sons, Russell ("R.J.") O. Gee, III, 12, and Matthew Edward Gee, 10. He is predeceased by his mother and father, Russell O. Gee, M.D. and Ruth Sharp Gee, formerly of Tarrytown, New York. He is also survived by a sister, Erlyne Gee and her husband Brian Silverman, a mother-in-law Martha Richey, father-in-law and his wife, Edward and Ginger Peters, three sisters-in-law and their spouses: Julie and Scott Stratton, Janna and David Lhota, and Jennifer and Gary Burr, a brother-in-law and his spouse, James Peters and Ana-Mari Woehr, and five nephews and three nieces. Russ was born on June 23, 1958 in the Bronx, New York. He grew up in Tarrytown, New York and graduated from Hackley School in 1976. Upon graduation, he received a Bachelors in Science from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts in 1980, a Masters Degree in Public Health from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1982 and a Medical Degree from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. in 1986. He completed his orthopedic residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and received a fellowship at the Hospital for Bone and Joint Disease in New York, New York for foot and ankle reconstructive surgery in 1992. Prior to his death, he was a partner with Grove Hill Medical Center, Department of Orthopedics located in New Britain, Connecticut. He was also a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He was a wonderful, caring doctor and will always be remembered as a dedicated and compassionate practitioner by his colleagues and patients. During high school and college, Russ excelled academically as well as in numerous athletic activities. While attending Williams College, he was a member of the collegiate football and lacrosse teams. He shared this passion for outdoor activities and sports with his wife and two sons. Aside from his dedication and devotion to his family, Russ was actively involved with the West Hartford Youth Sports League as an Assistant Coach for lacrosse and was actively involved with his son's football and hockey teams. He also donated his time and skills as a physician for the Newington High School football team and Beat the Streets Boxing Club. He will be deeply missed and remembered with love by his family and friends and everyone whose lives he touched. Dr. Gee gave the gift of life through organ donation. In honor of his incredible life, donations can be made in the memory of Russell O. Gee, II, M.D. to the West Hartford All Sports Council, Leisure Services Department, 50 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT 06107. Calling hours will be Tuesday April 22 from 4-8 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave.,West Hartford. Funeral Services will be Wednesday (April 23) at 11:00 a.m. in the First Church of Christ Congregational, 12 South Main Street, West Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford, CT.
