Shirley Lemay Obituary

Shirley T. Lemay

Shirley T. Lemay was called home to the Lord on Friday, January 29, 2021. Born on December 9, 1926 in Waterbury, CT, she was the daughter of John B. and Rose (O'Hara) Manfredi. Shirley is survived by her three children: Paul Lemay and his wife Barbara of Southbury, CT, Barry Lemay and his wife Christine of Spring Lake, MI, and Sharon Lemay and her fiancé Drew Ronske of Woodstock, GA; her seven grandchildren: Christopher Lemay (Tami), Jennifer Lemay-Cascone (Kyle), Scott Lemay(Holly), Patrick Lemay (Jessica), Brian Lemay (Gessika), Katelyn Lease, and Kristen Dohrer (Tyson); six great grandchildren: Olivia(Tom), Hannah, Eva, Donovan, Chase, and Lilliana; her sister in law, Joan Manfredi and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband H. Paul Lemay, brother John Manfredi, and sister Barbara Stoveken.

Shirley fondly shared memories of her loving parents, siblings and childhood passions for dance, theater, and ice skating. Shirley graduated Sacred Heart Grammar and High School in Waterbury, CT where she met the love of her life H. Paul Lemay. The two were later married on April 19, 1947 and moved to Watertown, CT where they welcomed their three children. In 1966 the family relocated to Nanuet, NY which quickly became her second home and remained that way throughout her life. In Nanuet, Shirley became an active member of St. Anthony's Church and school. She served as a volunteer physical education teacher, Religious Education teacher, and Eucharistic Minister for many years, and the co-coordinator of the Senior Ministry. Shirley also was a part time employee for Sears in Nanuet for over twenty years.

Shirley is best remembered as a loving mother and grandmother affectionally known as Nana. Always there for her children and their families, she enjoyed spending time with family in Connecticut, Michigan, and Georgia. She was a living example of great faith and love to all her children will always be remembered for her guidance, strength and faith. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren will remember her unconditional love, competitiveness (especially in card games), and the way she demonstrated a unique love for each of them making them feel special. She loved her parish family and was a member of Saint Anthony's for 55 years. She had a personal love and friendship with all of the members of the Seniors group at St. Anthony's.

Visitation will be held at Joseph Sorce Funeral home , West Nyack, NY on Wednesday, Feb 10th from 2PM - 4PM . A Mass of Christian Burial, will take place on Thursday, Feb 11th at 10 AM in St. Anthony Parish Church, Nanuet, NY . Shirley LeMay was one of the awesome mothers on Burton Street Ext. in Watertown, CT as my siblings and her children grew up and played together. She was a second "Mom" whose beautiful smile, genuine concern, and good listening skills made her kitchen a welcome spot, and she always knew the right words to encourage and support any of us fortunate enough to spend time with her. She was the epitome of the "good neighbor" reaching out in joyful and difficult times in genuine and loving ways. She was quiet and had a wonderful sense of humor and a contagious laugh. She was one of the bright stars in our lives.

Our love and virtual hugs go out to her family with prayers of support as they face the days ahead as they grieve this wonderful woman. She has blessed us all and remains in our hearts.
