Delia,(Velia) my first cousin, who babysat me as a toddler in Solano Calabria our place of birth, whose nick name was 'cuor di colomba' (heart of a dove) was truly a witness of gentleness, unselfishness, unconditional love and who lived her life for others.
Although our times together were few because of distance, it is a fact that blood is thicker than water. When we connected by telephone or the few times in person our hearts rejoiced because that same love was flowing in both our veins. It was as if the gap of time instantly reemerged.
To you Serafino, her son, know that my brothers Peppino and Diego Papalia(a.k.a. Joe and Dick) and I are united with you and every member of your great family in grieving and in celebrating of one great life that graced this earth, your Mother's.
From me, my husband and our family we send you our deepest thoughts of love.
Surely the The Lord Jesus embraced her into His loving arms and gave her the joy of His love in eternal life and may He sustain you and yours in His peace.

Ms Fava you were a wonderful woman and nobody can ever wear your shoes. You had a big heart, open arms and lots of love to give to everyone. I am so happy I was able to be part of your life. I will remember all the good times with you and your family. You are gone, but never will be forgotten. You will always be on my mind and in my heart. I love you and until we meet again. Love Erika.

Velia (a.k.a. Grandma Fava),
You were a beautiful woman, inside and out. PERIOD! Not only were you a wonderful friend to me, but also to my late father Joe and rest of my family. You supported me and gave me advice for many, many years. Even if I lost contact for several years with you and your family, you always treated me as though we had been in touch. You also treated me like a grandson. You were gentle and caring in nature. One of her beliefs in life was the importance of being authentic with people, saying what needs to be said because it's good for the relationship and the soul. Also, I always admired how she never judged or forced her opinions on anyone, but offered valuable and truthful advice that I will surely miss. She had a keen intuition and profound ability to understand people, and I looked to her to hear what her thoughts were on the matter.
You are surely and most definitely missed in the lives of everyone you touched. Many years have passed since sitting at your kitchen table in the early to mid 90's eating your famous Speidini with samorigilia (mini bracioles rolled with grandma's famous sauce), but it seems like it was only yesterday. We always had a blast at your home. The conversations were great and we all laughed together at the table. What was even better than the belly laughter was what we would be feeding our bellies - the BEST FOOD EVER! You were a remarkable cook and I always told you to write a cookbook. Those are memories I adore and cannot be replaced. If there was a way to reach out to you, just to even chat, I would. I would give the world for those moments at your house in Chappaqua and our many conversations talking on the telephone. The bags of tomatoes you sent me home with night after night and your generosity can never be topped. I now grow my own tomatoes and keeps that same tradition going; giving out tomatoes to family and friends who I come in contact with all summer. I will miss you Grandma Fava and love everything that you ever represented to all who knew you. Love your other grandson and friend - Vincent De Pasquale
