Vincent Sherman Obituary

Vincent Sherman

Pearl River - Vincent Sherman, 76, passed away at home on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was a proud lifelong resident of Pearl River, NY. He started his working life at Dexter Folder Company in downtown Pearl River, continued his career working at Orange and Rockland for over 30 years, and in his retirement, enjoyed driving all around the tri-state area doing deliveries for Miele Auto Parts. He could often be seen hanging with buddies at Piermont pier, showing off one of his old cars at a car show with his Rockland Rodders, going for a long car ride with his wife of 56 years, and talking to anyone who would listen. He also enjoyed boating in his favorite vacation spot, Rhode Island. He will be remembered for his big smile and roaring laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; his daughter, Kim DeGennaro; his son Michael and wife Kirsten; his son Gary and wife Debra; and his three granddaughter, Jamie, Devin, and Avery. He also leaves behind many dear friends and old-co-workers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation from 3 PM - 8 PM on Monday, December 2, 2019, at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Hospice of Rockland at HospiceofRockland.org or 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY, 10956.

There are not too many people who are like Vinny Sherman. I would be surprised if he had any issues with anybody because not only did I never hear him speak ill of anybody but I also never saw him angry. Vinny would help anyone who needed and this meant in any way he could. He was an excellent mechanic so he was able to pick me up and help with my car when I had problems. What I will remember most about Vinny Sherman is that he was the most social human being I knew. He would talk to anybody who would listen and would talk back to him and he seemed to know almost everybody. Vinny was charming, kind, interesting and sweet. I loved Vinny Sherman and not just because he was my daughters grandfather but also because of how he treated me. Whenever I saw him, Vinny acted genuinely happy to see me and we always were able to have a nice conversation that sometimes included a bit of Rockland County history because he was around the county for decades. My daughter Jamie adored him because he always loved her and they hung around with each other like friends. He would see me at Jamies softball games at Pearl River HS and Stevens Institute of Technology. As an expert and owner of older automobiles, Vinny thrilled Jamies PR HS class by driving her to her junior prom. I love him for that alone but there are way too many Other reasons why the world will miss Vincent Sherman. His smile, his sense of humor, his knowledge of our county, his warmth toward all people and how he treated everybody with dignity and kindness. I expect God is talking to him right now, possibly about vintage autos or maybe God is just smiling because now he has Vinny with Him and that means he has a true friend and ally.
