WILLIAM BUCHAN Obituary
Dr. William J. Buchan of Blauvelt, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 20, 2007. William (Bill) was born in New York on April 27, 1930, to Catherine (Murray) and William Buchan. Devoted husband, loving father, beloved grandfather and loving brother. William is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anne Moore and his five children; Maureen and her husband, Mike VerSchneider, son, William (Billy) and his wife, Susan Buchan; daughter, Anne and her husband, Chris Moran, son, John and his wife, Jana Buchan and his daughter, Kathleen; sister, Joan Heaney, many nieces and nephews; and eleven grandchildren, Edward, Tara and Julie Gavin; James, Ryan and Kelly Buchan; Meghan, Keelin, Conor and Mollie Moran; and William Buchan. Bill received his education from Cardinal Hayes Highs School in Bronx, NY, St. John's University in QueensNY,St. Joseph Seminary in Yonkers, Fordham University in Bronx, NY, New York University and Columbia University, both in NY, NY. Bill received his doctoral degree from St. John's University in 1976. A lifelong educator, Bill served in a variety of capacities in both the New Jersey and New York public and parochial schools. He worked as principal of St. John the Baptist School in Hillsdale, NJ, Professor of Teacher Education and Board Trustees Member at Dominican College of Blauvelt, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Personnel Director, and Administrator of Labor Relations for the New York City Board of Education in Queens, NY, Administrator of Community Affairs in Queens, NY and a classroom teacher in New York City. Dr. Buchan was a published author of several publications, most notably, The Elementary School Years: A Handbook for Parents, and senior editor of Labor Relations Update, a quarterly newsletter circulated nationally to arbitrators, school superintendents, schools of law and labor attorneys by the New York City Board of Education. A spiritual leader in St. Catharine's Parish, Bill served as lector, Eucharistic minister, and an integral member of the Synod of the Archdiocese of New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 10 am at St. Catharine of Alexandria Church in Blauvelt, NY with his interment to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet, NY.
