WILLIAM GOETSCHIUS Obituary

William B. Goetschius, 86, of Westminster, MD, died Friday, November 1, 2002 at home of a heart attack. Bill had survived a previous heart attack and had undergone quintuple bypass surgery in 1999. Born July 29, 1916 in Upper Saddle River, NJ, he was the son of the late William E. and Georgianna Burtis Goetschius. He was the husband of Charlotte Marie Goetschius, his wife of 63 years. Bill worked in partnership with his father in running the family fruit and vegetable farm in Rockland County for 30 years before retiring to Carroll County, MD in 1973. Bill was a loyal and avid Mason throughout his life. He held dual membership in the Door to Virtue Lodge #46 AF & AM in Westminster, MD and the Athelstane Lodge #839 in Spring Valley, NY. Bill celebrated 64 years in Masonry this year. Bill loved camping and vigorously pursued travel all over the country with Charlotte and his friends in the National Camping Travelers. In his retirement, Bill was an enthusiastic volunteer at the nature center at Piney Run Park. He was a member of Deer Park United Methodist Church in Smallwood, MD and had served on the Administrative Council there. Before moving to Maryland, Bill was a member of Viola Methodist Church in Suffern, NY. Surviving besides his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law: Frank and Nancy Goetschius of Severna Park, MD, and John and Ann Goetschius of Chesterfield, VA; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Dorothy and Gaylord Dunn of New Windsor, NY; and Anne and William McGorum of Worthington, OH; two grandsons, William and Joseph Goetschius of Severna Park, MD; granddaughter and husband, Jennifer and Robert Williams of Williamsburg, VA; step-grandson and wife, Bruce and April Kenimer and step-great-grandson, James Kenimer, all of Richmond, VA. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2002, at 11 AM at Deer Park United Methodist Church with his Pastor, the Rev. Basil Day, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Airmont, New York at 11 AM Friday, November 8, 2002. The family will receive friends at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, MD on Monday and Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM and at the church on Wednesday from 10 AM until service time. Door to Virtue Masonic Lodge #46 AF & AM will conduct a Memorial Service on Monday, 8 PM, at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Deer Park United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Mr. Herb Shipley, 3304 Sykesville Rd., Westminster, MD 21157-8252.
